In celebration of our anniversary, we went out to dinner at Fuel a few weeks ago. We love the laid back atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent food and wine options. I had a glass of 2004 Bordeaux, and my husband had a Pinot Noir–both were lovely with the fresh bread and butter as we waited for our main course to arrive… (We skipped out on appetizers in an attempt to save room for dessert and coffee.)
I opted for the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly and was very tender. I rarely eat red meat, but this dinner is one of the few that I have ordered on several occasions while dining at Fuel because of the excellent flavor combination. The creamed spinach, bacon potato gratin and red wine demi-glace make for a savory combination of sauce and sides to drag each bite through…
My husband ordered the duck shepard’s pie which is a Tuesday night special and according to our waiter it is apparently so popular that each Tuesday it sells out. He also claimed that nobody ever finishes it because it is a very generous serving. My husband said he COULD have finished it, but would likely have been too full, so he brought home enough for lunch leftovers. I tried a bite, and it was delicious (and usually I do not care for shepard’s pie)…
For dessert we had the creme brulee which was served with a chocolate hazelnut cookie. We have had creme brulee for dessert at Fuel on a number of occasions; each time it has been a different flavor. We really enjoyed this creme brulee which had chocolate and coffee flavorings.
Other dishes I would highly recommend trying at Fuel: the Balsamic Braised Pork Shank, and the Steak Au Poivre. The appetizers all sound amazing, though I have to admit I have only had the Fondue (on multiple occasions because I enjoyed it so much)…
