One day my husband came home from work with a little treat for me: stroop waffles. I had never heard of them before, and thought they sounded interesting.
Apparently you are supposed to rest the waffles on top of a hot beverage, which is supposed to melt the caramel filling.
I didn’t realize that there were actually two cookies in the package, until I went to sample the softened cookies.
While there was no gooey caramel, the flavor was interesting–cinnamon and a little bit of caramel flavor. The bottom waffle was somewhat soggy though, and crumbs fell into my tea. The top waffle was a little chewier, but both were definitely tasty. They sort of reminded me of cookies I had bought at Trader Joe’s around the holidays.
I’m going to go out on a limb, and guess that if one were to buy a REAL stroop waffle at a Dutch bakery, it would be higher on the “amazing list” than the packaged ones I tried.
